“Visualising concepts as sketches to show how they work in abstract terms.” 101 Design Methods.

Concept sketches turn abstract ideas into concrete forms that are easier to understand, discuss, evaluate, and communicate than words- only descriptions. Sketches are an excellent way to supplement written descriptions and help ideas be communicated more quickly and effectively. Because sketching is about making an abstract idea concrete, it forces us to think about the issues of putting the idea into action and brings us closer to refined concepts. Furthermore, it frequently generates new ideas for further investigation. Sketching is most commonly used in team brainstorming sessions to help participants clearly communicate, discuss, and steer them in promising directions. Iterating and reacting to a teammate’s sketch frequently results in many more new concepts, subconcepts, or concept improvements than abstract thinking alone. How it works-

  • To ensure a smooth work process, assign some team members as designated sketchers, while others focus on verbal ideation and communication.

  • Gather early descriptions of concepts already generated.

  • Sketch out the core idea.

  • Capture every sketch and discuss.

Reflections in the project Encapsulating each sketch, whether on paper or on the digital notes. Every sketch , note or scribble had a brief description. There were instances with concept sketches of how we could roll the project further. A concept sketch that appears insignificant at that stage was of more benefit later in the process when concepts were combined to form solutions. Notes and sketches were used during later discussions with the team, which helped document daily records as well as ideas that popped up during team discussions.

 • - discuss their qualities

• identify issues

• iterate the concepts

• -an idea of where more work is needed.

• Facilitates discussions

• - helped evolve basic ideas from initial meetings

• - mindmaps a drawing connections were possible due to this methodology

• This also helped with keeping record of date, time, quantity used for experiments.

• with sketch notes we were able to review experiments that didn't work out; as the notes help evaluate quantity differences, or small error that took place.

 • which we were able to rectify with rework & redo on the experiments.

• Key note- with scientific experiments its inportant to keep track of quantitites used, time when certain tasks were completed. as these are living; timeing played a key role hence this method assisted.
